Stone Cladding

Woodview Stonework have created a large number of stone cladded walls for a range of buildings in Devon. These range from new builds to barn conversions, out houses and commercial buildings, conservatories and extensions. We can clad a building in any style including vertical and horizontal cladding using a wide range of stones.

The style created depends primarily on the aesthetic of the house, ranging from ultra-modern new builds, to heritage properties that require a specific type of stone or style in the cladding. This is a really popular service and we welcome all enquiries from private clients, architects and developers.

New Build Cladding

New build cladding is where the exterior of a building is completed with a stone cladding. This has become very popular in recent years to create the aesthetic of a traditional building that fits in with the surroundings, or a modern building with a country design. Generally, the cladding is tied into blockwork or timber frame using a mesh tie to create strength and stability. The stone can be in any form with the option of drystone looking or pointed stone using lime mortar or modern pointing materials.

The cladding can be used for a standard flat face wall, stone reveals, arches, pillars, buttresses and coin ends. Woodview Stonework have built stone cladding on barn conversions, new builds, contracting or for older homes that need a transformation. We welcome enquiries from individual clients or commercial clients looking for stone cladding services on any new build or renovation project in Devon.

Horizontal and Vertical Cladding

Horizontal and vertical cladding is a speciality of Woodview Stonework. We have created large walls in both flat horizontal, random vertical and straight vertical stonework in a range of materials from Mill Hill quarry slate to Welsh sandstone, Hearson quarry stone and Trebarwith quarry stone. We can use split stone supplied to a specific thickness or we can hand split the stone as required.

The choice of horizontal or vertical is a personal preference, horizontal cladding is far more popular but we think that vertical cladding offers a unique style. Mixing both with horizontal stone in the coin pillars and vertical stone on the face creates a stunning look. We can also create strechers and headers stone clad walls where you can create a beautiful and unique look!

Welsh Limestone Cladding

Welsh limestone cladding is probably one of the most popular and cost effective stones as it is usually delivered sized and faced cut to purpose and that reduces your costs. This is a great natural material for stone cladding and looks stunning, specifically supplied as a cladding material, this is a great solution if you want a stunning look but want to avoid the costs of more expensive materials that need to be hand split.

Welsh limestone is very popular in Devon, especially for commercial clients that want a consistent look over a number of properties. The light colour really shows out the pointing and we have recently moved to new pointing technique where you can choose the colour yourself. Cut Faced Stone Cladding

Cut faced slate stone cladding is where the slate is cut in a warehouse with a table saw that provides perfectly smooth and flat face. This looks stunning on new and modern buildings where the client wants a slate cladded look that results in a crisp and clean exterior that is virtually flat across the stone face. This can be built to a drystone look or mortared in between the stone.

The dry stone look is generally preferred if the client is trying to achieve the ultimate in clean lines and a unique flat face on a modern or bespoke build. This is an architects favourite to create an aesthetic that is not achievable with other stones, perfect if you want that ultra-modern look using an environmentally friendly stone!
